Declan Moved to His Furever Home in Orlando!

There's something about my birthday! On December 28th in 2009 we picked up Jakey from the shelter in Naples. Now, exactly 4 years later we are saying goodbye to another sweet boy - Declan.

Deckie's farewell photo taken just before his new mama arrived to pick him up.

Declan with his mama Jamie. Today was actually the 3rd time they have met.

The girlie on the right is Lucy, Declan's new sister! They played every time they met. The photo bomber on the left is Diamond Ratbone.

Secret Santa Diamond

Diamond was in the same Secret Santa program as explained in Declan's post below. Sorry for the low number of photos and their quality. She wasn't cooperating for photos that day.

She was very interested and glad that this one was for her.

She LOVED that blanket and grabbed it and carried it around.

Thank you Secret Santa!!

Secret Santa Declan!

Each year Ratbone Rescues organizes a Secret Santa for dogs in foster care. Good Samaritans can volunteer to send gifts to a foster dog by picking one from the web site. Declan got his box first.

He was very interested in the smell of the box until Diamond came over to claim it then he wanted nothing to do with it for fear of Diamond. So, I took him in the bedroom, alone, hoping that would help.

He was a little freaked out and worried that the packages belonged to Diamond so I had to open them for him.

He was very interested once they were opened.

Declan with his Christmas loot! Thank you Secret Santa - licks!

Secret Santa - Eddie

Eddie was in a gift exchange on Katie Scarlet & Co, a social networking of pet lovers. He got a SS gift from Texas and sent one to Kentucky.

Even with pushy Diamond in the way, Eddie managed to grab a package from the box and carry it off to open.

After he open the first one, a stuffed rat that he LOVES, he was back at the box looking for more.

This time he picked out something that smelled yummy. They looked so yummy I almost tried one!

Eddie is eating his cookie, notice all the crumbs, and sticking near his rat.

More gift carnage.

I tried stacking up his gifts for a photo op but he jumped up to grab a bully stick :)

Finally, boy enjoying his Christmas haul. Thank you Addison!

Eddie Brought Us A Christmas Gift

Can't get mad - it's what he's bred to do. Nope, it's not hanging on our tree. I just had Jerry hold it there so that I could photo a silhouette instead of all the gory detail.

Marge's Tree

I believe I have put up my last tree for the season. Marge has a collection of cool vintage glass ornaments. Sadly, we loose a couple each year because they are so fragile. I added deco mesh to her tree this year which doesn't leave room for all her ornaments so I basically did just vintage and left off her newer stuff. She was very happy because she can see the lights.

You can see she likes a more traditional look with multi colored lights and ornaments The CNA said hers is the biggest tree they ever seen in the ALF, lol. I hadn't even considered downsizing her tree but maybe next year.

More Decorating

Over Thanksgiving weekend my cousin Lea and I went to her daughter's house to decorate her tree and mantle. Erica is an RN so she works holidays. Putting up her decorations is our way of saying thank you to the folks who don't get to attend Thanksgiving dinner because they are responsible for the health and safety of others.

Eddie the Reindeer for Julie

My blog buddy Julie mentioned that Eddie looked a bit like a reindeer in a previous post which got me thinking and onto Pixler to turn my boy into Rudolph! Hope you like it Julie.

Speaking of Pixler, I did some Christmas "photoshopping" on one dog photo on each of the 10 pages of the Ratbone Rescues website of doggies available for adoption. I believe it really helped motivate people to sign up s a Secret Santa for those lucky dogs - now almost all the dogs have a SS (yippee!) Here's a peek:

Thanksgiving 2013

Jerry & I went to Mom's for Thanksgiving dinner. Sadly, Marge just wasn't up to attending. We had talked it up the last couple weeks and her ALF had her dressed up and hair done but when Jerry went to pick her up she had nodded off and refused to go. We're learning you can't get agreement from her if you wake her up. He hung around a while hoping she would change her mind but, instead, we had our first Thanksgiving without her.

What a surprise when we got there. We were expecting cousins Lea and Sonja (with their husbands) but Aunt Mary and Uncle Larry were there too! Mom knew but didn't tell any of us. We had a nice meal and a nice visit. After dinner mom and I went to Michael's which is our Thanksgiving tradition. Every year I ask the Michael's staff how they feel about working Thanksgiving evening and they say they love it because if you work Thanksgiving night you get black Friday off.

Armed Forces History Museum & Office Christmas Tree

I went on a guided tour of the Armed Forces History Museum with a lineage society. The museum is located off Ulmerton Rd in Largo FL and I found the narration quite moving. Not only was the museum's founder literally the first person to land on the beach at Normandy, we also had the opportunity to speak to a Korea war veteran who was held as a prisoner of war for 31 months. Very moving and worth visiting if you are I the area. They have cool tanks too :)

I went to breakfast with a couple coworkers today and then two of us put up the Christmas tree in the office. Normally I do it during work hours but it is kind of distracting to others and I get interrupted a lot so doing it while the office was closed was perfect. Here's our finished tree for this year:

Look Who's Learning

Just a glimpse of my practice in learning to cut out and paste something in a new image. Notice the photos above the bed, those in the bed, and the cookies and milk. I added all that. Not perfect but it's not easy!

Neighborhood Muscovy

Broke Wing So, back in March a mama Muscovy showed up with 14 ducklings in the pond across the street. These ponds are retention pond...
