Organic Farming

We finally did it. The last couple of years I have been interested in purchasing a membership in an organic farm. Every year it seemed the timing was wrong, or they grew a lot of things I don't eat, or the cost was out of our budget.

I shopped around and finally found one that is really close! http://gatewayorganicfarm.com/  Between my mom and coworkers I am sure that I can find someone to take greens when they are in season (just can't stand the texture of wilted greens).

We live in Florida so you think we could grow our own produce; however, we have a teeny yard and honestly I do not enjoy vegetable gardening. I would rather support a small urban farm - it's a win/win. I might still plant a pot of cherry tomatoes ;)

Green Eggs and Ham

The photo didn't come out too well but the egg shells are a pastel green.

When I first told my husband I was fixing green eggs and ham for breakfast today, he told me "no thanks." I asked him why and his explanation told me he thought the yolks were green. I explained they were fresh eggs from a coworkers chickens and some of them laid green (shell) eggs. He was good with that :)

The coworker who gave me the eggs has a variety of chickens so she get green, blue, white, and several shades of brown eggs. She has a friend who won't even try the eggs with green shells - only white, brown, or blue. Silly goose!

Feeling Overwhelmed

The title is a true description. So much to do lately. Mostly boring paperwork stuff for several organizations. But, I did do something interesting yesterday.

I was entrusted with taking donations at work and picking out a potted plant for a coworker who lost her mother last week. I just couldn't find what I envisioned (and to buy from a florist was well above our budget) so I ended up buying the parts and making a potted arrangement. For those of you who know about orchid culture, don't worry. They are actually in separate pots tucked in among the others.

Since we live in central Florida she can grow this on her porch pretty much year around. I love cut flowers but sometimes a living plant is a nice reminder of the person you lost.

Are You Ready For Some Football?!?!?! Care Package, That Is.

I did my second care package to an Air Force serviceman stationed somewhere over seas. Because he seems to love sports, I decorated the first box and bought stuff in the baseball theme. This second box is football themed. Diamond was in the middle of this from start to finish - she really thought everything was for her ;)

I left his address showing in case anyone else wants to send this fire fighter a care package too. But, you better hurry. I understand he is headed home before too long.
