Orchid Hotel...Plus A Lizard Or Two
Very cold weather predicted for tonight and tomorrow - maybe even freezing temperatures. I believe the high today was 52 and at 8pm it was 49. I'm sure the folks attending the inauguration today think that sounds nice but my orchids sure don't. I brought all eightysomething of them into the house. I'm sure a few lizards have also hitched their way into the house as well.
Our fireplace seperates the living and dining rooms and the floor around it is tiled on both sides so it's a great spot to place wet plants. This year the plants are sharing it with Chloe in her sick bed.
Another kitchen shot. Annie the cat eats on my sewing table so I had to leave a space for her to jump on the chair to jump to the table.
I have this rolling rack made for clothes for hanging orchids on since so many are hangers. I also have orchids in the bathroom hanging off the shower rod. Some of my vandas have such loooong roots that they needed the height of the shower rod and to stay out of the way. As you can see by this photo, Eddie is excited to be able to hunt indoors.

Green Thumb Sunday
In case anyone was worried about my Eddie after the humiliating Rooster photo incident, don't be - he is alive and well as proved by these photos taken today. No rat terriers were harmed during said photo session.
I decided to do only screen porch garden photos today. Here is the view from sliding door in the kitchen and taken while I was working at my sewing machine. The dogs typically stay around me but to Eddie being in the screen porch alone is OK when he can see me through the glass door. In this photo he is enjoying his favorite pastime of lizard hunting. He's in my Cats and Dens.
The little corner area where Ed has turned over and broke many a pot. I call it my shard corner, LOL. Jerry calls it a mosquito breeding ground because the water stands after watering.
This corner of my screen porch is for orchids that prefer a shadier, perhaps even cooler, climate. Notice how they look unhappy - it is hot!
Eduardo sees something but it is up high on the screen. He will wait forever for it to come closer and usually accompanied by a sound track that only a rattie can perform.
Even a hunter likes the comforts of home so he moves his surveillance to a more comfortable post. Our screen porch is filled with orchids, a table 4 chairs and stero for humans, and a dog bed & blankie for the furkids.

Check My Equipment & Gross Warning
First let me say that there are photos on this post that some will find gross so DO NOT scroll down if you are squeemish. There - a fair warning. For the rest of you morbid freaks (LOL) there's dog killing lizard photos after the following rant, er eloquent turn of phrases.
I was thinking about the tee shirt worn by the VP nominee Sarah Palin and thought back to the late 70's when I was very young and working for a CASE deadership where we sold and rented heavy equipment such as backhoes, excavators, etc. For those of you too young to have been in the workplace in the late 70's you missed a lot of sexism. Jokes with double meaning, one sexual, were not a source of lawsuits at the time and women, or men, who complained found themselves labeled as not a team player or hard to get a long with. Now I realize I am generalizing because there were probably some progressive comapanies out there that realized the danger of inappropriate behavior in the work place but not in the any place where I worked.
Case in point - the owner of my company had a yachet. Every year he took the employees out in it but he took the men and women seperately. The men went on a fishing trip that left early in the morning and they were gone for the day. The women were taken on a cruise to a somewhat secluded cove for swimming and then on to dinner. The women got the afternoon off for this adventure and there was LOTS of liquor on board. The president, his brother, and I believe the male sales manager basically played bartender to the women and helped us on and off the boat. While I still appreciate the generosity involved, I do realize it was a bikinifest for the guys no doubt about it. You would have to be there to witness it to understand.
Get to the tee shirt part, Vickie! Ok, this same owner/president of the company had shirt made up for the women to wear when representing the company. We wore them on certain days of the week and if you did something extracurricular such as the bowling or basketball team. On the front of these bright yellow orange (CASE yellow) tee shirts across the breast area it said in big, bold lettering "CHECK MY EQUIPMENT". Oh, yes it did! The back, of course, listed our locations and product information. Can you imagine the response if an employer today even suggested such a thing?
Now what you have been waiting for - Eddie the Lizard Terriorist! Oh, and if you want to see sexism in the workplace in the 70's, rent the video Anchorman with Will Ferrell. It's a bit exaggerated (in my experience) but you'll get the picture and the feel of the time.

Easter Sunday
Today we took MIL Marge to the Colonnade restaurant in Tampa for Easter dinner. This is probably Marge's favorite restaurant and I am all for it because it is primarily a seafood restaurant so there are lots of things on the menu I like. Plus, we all like the basket of mini muffins they put on each table:) Mom decided to stay home and rest this weekend because she will be working Mon - Sat next week. I am attaching photos of the inside and outside of the restaurant from their web site as well as a photo along Bayshore Blvd
We started with crab cakes as an appatizer. Their menu today had many additional items due to it being Easter. Which reminds me, we were expecting to wait but our timing was perfect. The first rush was ending and the second hadn't started yet. We even got a good parking space. Jerry & Marge ordered the leg of lamb dinner and I had scallops. The view is fabulous! Even leaving the restaurant it is gorgeous because of all the beautiful homes on Bayshore Blvd. In fact, HGTV has featured homes from that neighborhood on different shows. It's fabulous ata Christmas time.
Chloe seems to be improving. Ed is very playful like he has spring fever which is probably due to the awakening of hundreds of lizards. Daisey is my sun goddess and will actually leave her pack just to sunbathe on perfect days like this. I am getting blood all over the keyboard as I type because Edward broke a candle holder and I cut myself cleaning it up. Jerry and I were trying to work on a project to install more hooks and PVC coated chain for hanging orchids in the screen porch. Some of the old hooks from 4 years ago have rusted and broke off causing orchids to crash - I already have Eddie for that! Turns out the Makita had no charge so I have a little break while it charges.

Frogs-0, Lizards-0, Rat Terriers-3
My plan to get my final paper written yesterday was a bust - I found more interesting things to do. That means that tonight I will be up late writing. Don't know why I do this to myself. I believe that I have had so many classes in a row without a break that I am just burned out on school. Each year as the holidays come I get very distracted from school. Luckily, graduation is in May.Spoke to Dad last night. He finally made it home on a different flight from Dallas to Little Rock after he missed his connection due to delays leaving Tampa. I finished up Christmas things like the tree decorating and wrapping gifts. Took Marge shopping today and we had lunch at a German Deli. I scheduled the day off knowing that I would be to the wire on my final paper ;)
The big news around here is the weather. It got into the 40's last night. Jerry helped me bring over 70 orchids into the kitchen for protection. They probably didn't all need to come in but when you have 70 or so, it's hard to remember which ones perish at which temperature. Numerous frogs and lizards rode in with the orchids so the Rat Terriers were busy chasing harmless creatures around the house last night. Looks like the plants will have to stay in the house for a couple more days so it's not looking to good for the lizards and frogs.
