Halloween Dotee on SwapBot.com

I received my Haloween Dotee today! I sent off the one I made on Monday and the person who received it loved it too. This one is scary - mine was kinda funny scary. Click here to see the one I made and sent.

When I first opened the squishy envelope these ants started to fall out and my first reaciton was to drop the envelope. Too funny.
She sent extra skull beads and some Halloween stickers.
Very positive experience. I would do it again. In fact, I've already signed up for the snowman Dotee.
If anyone is interested in an easy, fast, and inexpensive way to express your creativity, the Dotee doll is for you!

Dotee #4 - Halloween Swap

I was finally approved for the Swap-bot.com Halloween dotee doll swap. Seems when you are new they want a lot of information to determine that you will follow through. I understand - I've been in a couple round/row robins in quilting and never got my stuff back :(

September 1st is the sign up deadline, then swap partners are assigned, and the dolls must be mailed by October 1st. Since it's my first you can see I did it WAY in advance. I can be a procrastinator because I have to be "in the mood".

My dotees aren't as traditional as others so I hope mine isn't a disappointment. I did embroder the face this time but I added scrapbook items instead of beading.

The swap requires a traditional tail and I did that with the Halloween theme in mind!

A tired me still getting calls of concern. My mom wants me to call her today but Seattle is 3 hours away so I am waiting....waiting...waiting. Oh, I think the banging noise that kept us up all night is a neighbor's screen door but I am not sure. It continues this mroning but the rats have either become desensitized or it's not as scary in the daylight.

Here's Miss Daisey Mae - my creature of habit. She looks concerned because everything is so different. Momma didn't go to work, the windows are covered, there are big totes in the living room, and the house is clean and full of food! It's an alternate universe for her, LOL.

Dotee #3 - Flower

I named this one Flower after the past matriarch of Meerkat Manor. No glue gune used here - everything is hand sewen except the body which was done on machine. I did some bead work on the body (look close up to see) and I used a very cool yarn for the hair. Think you will seeing lots of dolls with that hair cuz I had to buy a skein of it. Also, I bought clay and made/baked some faces today for future dolls. This dotee art doll craft is fun! So small they are not expensive in terms of money or time. Vickie

Dotee #2 - Ladybug

Let me start by saying the colors are all off on this. That bright orange is actully red and a deep red not an orange red. Please meet my Dotee #2. Her name is Ladybug because of the fabric I used for the body of the doll. Yes, I do have a collection of insect fabrics (you've seen two of them). More about Ladybug after the photos :)

The ladyblue fabric is actually quite beautiful. It's a buttery yellow with deep red beetles. The skirt fabric is also a buttery yellow, albeit a bit brighter, and it has very small sparkles. I added the larger, red "gems". Truth be told, I was trying to make a tootoo (spell?) because I wanted ladybug ballerina.

I keep looking at Dot's blog and intending to make a beaded, smaller doll with more intricate work and less glue gun but these keep coming out of my hands. I guess I just need practice and better eye sight for beading.

Dotee Doll

My blogger friend Julie posted her first Dotee doll and invited other crafty friends to make one as well. I found a tutorial, and some great examples, at this blog so I couldn't help but try my hand at making one. This is my very first doll and I am naming her Miss Vickie because we have a lot in common :)

As you can see by this full frontal photo, both Miss Vickie and I have a little "junk in the trunk". She adores dragonflies and so do I! Her dress is made from a small dragonfly print and there is a dragonfly bead hanging from the bottom of the doll.

Here's her close up. In case anyone is wondering about the hair - I call it dryer lint hair. Basically I am a quilter and "we" wash fabrics before we use them so there is always this balled up mess of threads on the cut edges of fabric when you take them out of the dryer, They just look so artful that I have been saving them (hubby has suggested throwing them away several times) knowing that someday they would be useful. Today the dryer debris became doll hair.

I've had this dragon fly bead for many years and never found a use for it until tonight. I also had a packet of those dark purple beads which were perfect for the project.
Love the angeled shot! Makes her look so artsy and less crafty. LOL

Finally, you can see I embellished with buttons. I was determined to make her from supplies I had on hand and I was successful due to the number of abandoned craft projects I have supplies for:) I've already cut out fabric for a few more dolls so I will have to make a trip to a craft supply store for beads - I was thinking one of those kid bead kits would be cool because it comes in a container with a variety of beads.
