The Little Mermaid

Mom & I joined my cousins Lee & Erica to watch Sarah perform in The Little Mermaid at the Largo Community Center. Very cute to see kids acting in a play. Much different than the adult community theatre I was involved with. Her neighbor friend Gracie came too - love Gracie's silver boots!

Miniature Golf

Last night I played putt putt golf with the cousins. It started out really nice but as the course progressed, we lost the breeze and it was HOT and humid. I had fun, and the grounds were lovely, but I was glad when we finished and went to feed the gators where there was a breeze.

A photo of the grounds. It was so sunny that most of my photos of the landscaping didn't turn out well.

Cousin Erica teeing off at hole 1.

This poor guy - you gotta watch out for the quicksand.

Cousin Lea shoting through the cave.

Lee and Don - too bad the one with them smiling didn't turn out because they both have beautiful smiles :-)

Don, a.k.a. "Pops", with Sarah.

Amaizing what little girls do when their mother's back is turned, lol.

When we finished golf Sarah wanted to feed the gators - a real Florida girl!

Turns out that feeding the gators is dangling a piece of hot dog on something resembling a fishingpole.

They have all kinds of fencing to keep the gators away from the people, or, is it the people away from the gators?

New Year's Dinner

I am behind in blogging and will try to catch up - alot has gone on in the last few weeks. Christmas, my birthday, new year's, my dad's passing, and our wedding anniversary. Now I am under the weather and hopefully can use that time to catch up on easy things like downloading my camera ;)

Jerry and Jake show signs of stress on New Year's day. Watching college football and waiting on dinner to be served can take it's toll.

Having been selected as "the chosen one" to attend New Year's dinner at my mom's, Jake was an absolute gentleman. No marking, barking, whining, pacing, begging, or any other annoying doggie behaviors one might see in a more-spoiled doggie (not mentioning any names here); however, he did need to have me in his line of sight at all times. He was so good with my MIL Marge who normally avoids my dogs because they paw her to pet them and it rips her skin. (Don't you just love the aging process? I don't mind getting older but I don't like the changes so far or those to come.)
The crew sitting down for dinner. We had my hubby Jerry, my MIL Marge, my first cousin once removed Erica (in the scrubs because she had to go to work after), my mom Vee, my first cousin Lee (Erica's mom), and of course the world's worst phototographer, me!

My family, and strangers in restaurants, may believe it is wierd but I like to photo plates of food. Granted, I am no food stylist, but I like the documentation of tradition and food is a huge tradition during the holidays for my family. You could probably compare previous year blog posts and see just about the same menu year to year but always lovingly prepared ;)

Other than a day out, here's the real reward for being the chosen one. Luckily, Jake had his dental surgery the day before and had been on antibiotics for several days so I believe he was able to enjoy it.

Shopping, Wrapping, & Cruising Lights

Today was a full day. Dad & I shopped most of the day at several shopping centers and a mall. It was busy but not crazy. I didn't finish so I will do it again tomorrow. I need to buy perishables for Christmas dinner and trays for Jerry's work.

I wrapped everything tonight. And now our tree loooks like this. Finally have packages under the tree. If you sent a gift and you do not see it, it is because I put the packages to the front that coordinate with the tree (this year color theme is blue). I know, I'm wierd. Jerr once said he thought that might be a little rude but it's not like I hide unmatching gifts under the bed, I just move the matching ones to the front. Past years have included turquoise & silver, robin's egg blue & red, and gold & green.

Last night I cooked chicken parmesan & a big pot of chili. Actually I had to bake the chicken parm at MIL's house because my oven isn't working. Did I ever mention I hated my stove? Even when it was working? Anyway, we had the chili tonight and my mom brought over cornbread (which has to be baked in an oven) for dinner before we met up with cousin Lee, Erica, & Sarah to look at Christmas lights.

Amaizing how many people it takes to strap & unstrap a 3 year old in a car, LOL. Sarah watched a Baby Einstein video in the car. The neighborhood we went to does a huge display with many, many houses. It's actually overwhelming. Sarah wanted to walk but it was cold & windy and the neighborhood is large so we went to a smaller neighbor equally decorated where she could walk. The small neighborhood has lighted arbors over the sidewalks as well. Sarah didn't last long out there - not sure it was because of the cold & wind or the guy dressed up as a wizard in a lighted up cotume. Either one would have sent me back to the warmth of the van!

This is my neighbor's house. Now imagine a neighborhood with a couple hundred houses as decked out as this one and you have an idea of what we saw tonight.

Poor Eddie - exaughsted from all that cooking, cleaning, shopping, wrapping, and visiting.

Aunts

My mom, my cousin Leona (Lee) and I traveled to Beverly Hills today to see the Beverly Hillbillies, LOL. Actually it's Beverly Hills Florida and my Aunt Mary (mom's sister) and Uncle Larry will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Monday. Hard to believe because they look like kids in the photo below. In fact, I believe their daughters may be older than them, LOL.

Mary & Larry, Dec 2008

Aunt Ola Faye, another of mom's sisters, who I hadn't seen in 15 years. It was fun catching up with her.

My mom with Aunt Hellen in the background. All these photos were taken in Aunt Mary's kitchen. Her kitchen is always so clean and perfect. How does that happen? I want one like that.

Lee checking out Hellen's grey. Everyone is amaized that Hellen has very little grey and is in her 60's (but you didn't hear her age from me). Lee is my mom's deceased sister's daughter but they were raised almost as siblings.

Finally Aunt Hellen, mom's youngest sister.

Tomorrow we should see another of mom's sisters, Aunt Joyce and her husband Uncle Bob. Also Aunt Mary's daughter and granddaughter should arrive before we leave for home. Mom's mother had 11 children (9 females/2 males) and those mentioned here are the remaining surviving siblings.

Graduation Day

We are back from graduation. It was a glorious day with only one fatality - will explain that later. Cousin Erica and her mom (Lee) and Dad (Don) joined me, Jerry, my mom (Vee) and my Dad (Carl) at our house for a cocktail of fresh squeezed orange juice and champagne. The limo arrived at 7:45 and we were on our way before 8am. (By the way, Lee is my first cousin so Erica is my first cousin once removed but since my mom & Lee sorta grew up together some, seems more like Erica is my first cousin.)

This is a lousy photo of my family inside the Tampa Convention Center - they all had red eye but it is the only one of them inside so I'm posting it.

There was a processional into the center, a welcoming address, the presenation of colors and national anthem, the introduction, student speaker, faculty awards, and a commencement speaker. The speaker was great - she was both a a standup comic and a family therapist, really.

Then there was the conferring of 600 degrees, presentation of the class of 2008, before the recessional pictures above - I'm the white girl on the right, LOL.

This is me, bad hair day and sick headache, showing off my new diploma channelside. It was so sunny we couldn't take this photo without sunglasses because I couldn't keep my eyes open. The mortarboard cap was so unflattering and did horrible things to your hair/bangs (think conehead).

Here's Jerry getting into the limo. We were then off the the Colonnade for a nice seafood lunch.

The trip seemed super short after we opened a bottle of champaigne and toasted our way to the restaurant. (you can see the pitcher of mimosa from the ride TO the convention center).

Here we all are about to go into the restaurant albiet a little tipsy from champaign on an empty stomach!

The fatality - Jerry gave me roses and had the waiter bring a pitcher of water to put them in on the table. Suddenly the pitcher tipped over and water was everywhere including inside my digital camer. I was lucky to get these off before it quit functioning completely. That's why the pre-restaurant photos are the final photos.
